The World’s Biggest Heart Origami Ever Folded—Led by Women, Made with Love

Osaka, Japan – July 14, 2025 – At the heart of the France Pavilion at Expo Osaka 2025, a powerful act of unity, creativity, and female empowerment will unfold. A team of 30 to 40 women will come together in a symbolic performance to create the world’s largest heart-shaped origami—an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record and deliver a lasting message of love and collaboration.

Taking place outdoors and open to all Expo visitors, the initiative beautifully reflects the France Pavilion’s theme: “Hymne à l’Amour”—a celebration of universal love and human connection. This poetic gesture will take shape over 90 minutes, powered by collective strength and shared intention.

“When women join forces, they don’t just set records—they create legacies.”Machiko Ikeoka, founder of Femmes du Monde

The Legacy of Leadership: Machiko Ikeoka

The project is led by cultural visionary Machiko Ikeoka, founder of Femmes du Monde and multiple Guinness World Record holder. Her past achievements include:

With the Origami Heart Project, Ikeoka continues to use cultural performance as a platform for empowerment, symbolism, and global storytelling. Joining her is Yumi Tanabe, Officier de l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole, whose decades of work in women’s leadership adds depth and momentum to this movement.

A Rehearsal of Purpose

Before its global debut, the heartfolding ceremony was successfully rehearsed at the Nippon Origami Association, one of the world’s most respected institutions in the art of folding. This rehearsal confirmed the technical and artistic strength of the team—and the emotional weight behind the project.

A Double Record of Growth and Grace

This heart-shaped origami record is not the only world first being celebrated. A second Guinness World Record will also be recognised:

  • The World’s Largest Heart-Shaped Olive Plantation – a living symbol of peace, sustainability, and intergenerational care.

Together, these achievements create a cross-cultural and environmental message that links craft and cultivation, art and nature, and above all, women and the world.
